Artwork guide

Follow these guidelines and your file will print exactly as you expect. If you are unsure, upload it anyway: every file is checked before printing and we will tell you if anything needs attention.

File formats

The best format is a press-ready PDF at the final size with fonts embedded or converted to outlines. We also accept JPG, PNG, TIFF, AI, EPS, PSD, SVG, INDD (packaged) and ZIP archives.

Resolution

Supply images at 300 dpi at the final printed size for cards, flyers and booklets. For posters, banners and canvas prints, 150 dpi at final size is sufficient because they are viewed from further away.

Colour

We print in CMYK. RGB files are converted automatically, and bright screen colours such as vivid blues and greens can look slightly less saturated in print. For the most accurate result, design in CMYK. Use rich black (for example C60 M40 Y40 K100) for large black areas and 100% K for small text.

Bleed and safe zone

Printed sheets are trimmed after printing, so backgrounds and images that reach the edge need to extend past the trim line. This extra area is the bleed.

  • Bleed: extend artwork 0.125 in (3 mm) beyond the trim on every side. Use 0.25 in for large-format products.
  • Safe zone: keep text and logos at least 0.125 in inside the trim line (0.25 in for flyers, 0.5 in for posters and signs).
  • Folds: keep text 0.125 in away from fold lines on brochures and folded cards.

Fonts and text

Embed fonts in your PDF or convert text to outlines. Do not use text smaller than 6 pt, or thin strokes under 0.25 pt, particularly in reversed (light on dark) text.

Before you upload

  • Proofread spelling, phone numbers, web addresses and prices.
  • Check that the page size matches the product size you ordered.
  • Remove crop marks unless you supplied them with bleed.
